We are experts in dealing with denial. We are the best option for helping people who don't think they have a problem, or have relapsed after participating in other programs. All Nonviolent Alternatives addiction counseling staff are recovering individuals themselves. The Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text states, "We feel that our approach to the disease of addiction is completely realistic for the therapeutic value of one addict helping another is without parallel. We feel that our way is practical, for one addict can best understand and help another addict." 12-step fellowships are proven to be a highly effective means of self-help. Yet in the earliest stages of recovery, some are unwilling or unable to get help from a 12-step program and they seek formal treatment. However, many treatment programs are only temporarily effective at helping people. What happens when an individual leaves the controlled structure of a treatment program? Still in need of help and support, they may then turn to a 12-step fellowship. But often what they see and hear from the 12-step fellowship is completely different from what they learned, practiced, and relied upon in the treatment program. In fact, it may be completely contradictory. The result is a far greater chance of relapse. |

At Nonviolent Alternatives we offer a full continuim of outpatient and intensive outpaient treatment services. We use several evidenced-based programs and practices to achieve the highest possible rate of success. One example is Twelve Step Facilitation Therapy (included in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices). It is vital for us to help our clients learn how to effectively use the 12 steps to achieve a sustainable, lifelong, recovery. We believe a substance abuse counselor should be a professional temporary sponsor, like a mentor or coach. No one is more capable of teaching how to accomplish a complete change of lifestyle better than the person experienced at doing so themselves. We teach what the 12 steps are, what the principles of the program are and how to use them in day-to-day life, what a sponsor is and how to find one, what are the benefits of one addict sharing with another addict, how does a support group help one help him/her self. Basic recovery, pure and simple. Our specialty is working with clients who don't think they have a problem. To get started.... The first step to enter counseling with us is to attend an Intake session. The first step to enter counseling with us is to attend an Intake session. During this session, many important things are explained including confidentiality, Client Rights and Program Conditions. Numerous documents are prepared and signed. Call our 24 hour information line at 317-522-1921 for the day and time of our next Intake session. It is imperative for everyone seeking treatment for substance abuse to have an assessment to design an individual plan for treatment. So during the Intake session we will schedule an individual appointment for your assessment and we will also give you paperwork you will need to fill out and bring with you to your assessment appointment. During the assessment appointment, we will work together with you to design an individual plan for your treatment. Your individual treatment plan will determine how many treatment sessions you will be attending and how often. You will then be ready to begin attending treatment sessions. Generally speaking, clients attend treatment sessions one to three times per week. It is our policy that everyone we serve must agree to supplement treatment by also attending free 12 step self help program meetings or other support groups such as celebrate recovery. Clients referred to Nonviolent Alternatives by DCS have no out of pocket expense. All of our services are billed directly to DCS. For others, if you don't have insurance to pay for treatment, check out Abuse Counseling and Education, Inc. It is a not for profit outpatient program that charges on a sliding fee scale.
